Mariela Zavala

I started playing soccer when I was three years old and fell in love with the sport. At six years old, I joined Florida Rush competitive soccer team and played there for five years. I joined Montverde International Futbol Club in 7th grade and was named Offensive player of the year for the U14 and U15 age groups. I play the midfield position as I am strong and have the ability to use my body to make swift turns to switch the field. I am able to scan the field and find the pass to the wings or striker to lead them on to the goal. I am adaptable and able to play other positions, as I have played striker when the team needs someone to be aggressive and pressure the defensive line. I also play center back, as I am able to cut the angles when needed and use my abilities to read the field and work the ball out of the back. In school I am very self-determined and work hard on my grades. I currently have a 4.0 GPA with Principal Honors. I am a part of the Junior National Honors Society and a member of Cervantes de la Sociedad Hispanics de Amistad. In the summer of 2022, I was able to attend the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C.
